Get Social

Our Social Support programs help people to maintain their social interests or foster new ones, through a range of local group or one on one activities.
Supporting people to get out and about and remain socially connected to new or old friends helps them to maintain their independence and improves their health and wellbeing.

What activities are available?

One on one activities are based on individual interests and can include a visit to the shopping centre, a chat over coffee or out for swimming lessons.

Group activities are available throughout the Adelaide metropolitan area and the Fleurieu Peninsula and include:

  • Art groups
  • Choirs
  • Exercise groups
  • Movie groups
  • Bus tours
  • Groups for men
  • Groups for women
  • Cooking groups
  • Activities for people living with dementia
  • Respite groups

Transport is available on request and people living with dementia or who require assistance with mobility are welcome.

If you're searching for an Anzac biscuit recipe, here's a favourite from the residents and staff at West Park Residential Care Home. Residents baked a batch earlier this week as part of their social activities. It's not too late to make some for you, your family, and friends.

You’ll need:
2 cups rolled oats
2 cups plain flour
2 cups sugar
1 ½ cups desiccated coconut
2 tablespoons golden syrup
250g butter
3 teaspoons bicarbonate of soda
4 tablespoons boiling water

Method
1. Set oven temperature at 160°C.
2. Mix oats, flour, sugar and coconut in a bowl.
3. Melt butter and golden syrup.
4. Mix bicarbonate of soda and boiling water together and add to butter mixture.
5. Add to dry ingredients and mix.
6. Place small balls on grease proof tray. Allow room to spread.
7. Bake for approximately 20 minutes, until golden.

Enjoy.
