Following April Falls Prevention Month, the Residential Health Services Team reflected on leading efforts to raise awareness about falls prevention and support safer living environments for residents.
Luke Mapunda, Health Services Team Leader, shared the organisation’s approach:
“Falls prevention is an important part of supporting resident wellbeing. At ACH Group, we believe that by increasing awareness, providing education, and working together, we can help minimise risks and promote confidence among our residents.”
In April, ACH Group provided practical education to staff on key areas such as appropriate footwear, foot health, continence management, and responding effectively to residents’ changing needs.
“Falls are complex, and many factors contribute to risk,” Luke explained. “We focus on supporting residents through simple, everyday practices – from checking footwear to staying alert to changes in health.”
While falls can occur in a variety of settings, bedrooms are a common location in residential care. This highlights the importance of ongoing vigilance and proactive support to help create safer environments.
“Our focus is on creating a safe and supportive environment, recognising that everyone plays a part,” Luke said. “We are proud of the steps our teams take every day to support resident wellbeing.”
The initiatives launched in April form part of ACH Group’s ongoing commitment to resident safety and continuous improvement.
