Sing for Joy to take centre stage at Adelaide Entertainment Centre

On a stage that has hosted the world’s biggest musical acts, a local choir will take audiences on its own world tour in Passport to Song.

Showcasing the musical talents of more than 130 older South Australians, Passport to Song is a musical journey through life, love and memories from across the globe.

For the first time, ACH Group’s Sing for Joy will perform at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre in front of an audience of more than 600 on Saturday 9 May.

ACH Group CEO Linda Feldt said she is looking forward to seeing the choir shine on the big stage.

“To see 130 older South Australians standing proudly on the stage of the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, where so many world‑class performers have stood before them, is incredibly inspiring,” she said.

“They are a seriously talented choir, and they are throwing everything into making this a performance to remember.”

Choir Director Paul Sinkinson said the concert will traverse genres and styles, travelling the world through music and sharing the stories that have shaped the choir.

“For choir members, Passport to Song is the culmination of hundreds of hours of rehearsals since the last Sing for Joy concert in 2023,” he said.

“A life filled with music does not fade with time. It expands, deepens and becomes something truly powerful. With age comes depth, perspective and a kind of honesty that only lived experience can give. These voices carry stories, humour, heartbreak, resilience and joy, and that richness shapes every note they sing.”

The Sing for Joy Choir brings together six community choirs across Adelaide, as well as six ACH Group residential care homes.

Choir member Gloria Seymour, 77, has always been involved with music and has regularly performed across Adelaide as part of The Strolling Tones.

“The Strolling Tones disbanded about 10 years ago and I really missed being able to perform regularly, which is when I joined Sing for Joy,” she said.

“There is so much excitement around our choir, and we are all looking forward to taking the stage in a couple of months. I’d encourage people who haven’t seen a large‑scale choir before to come along — it’s far more powerful than people may expect.”

Tickets for the concert are now on sale through Ticketek.
