Engagement Matters – Implementation Guide

Embedding sustainable training for frontline workers to engage effectively with residents living with dementia

The ‘Engagement Matters’ Implementation Guide (Guide) aims to equip Residential Aged Care Providers with the knowledge and tools to implement a dementia education and coaching model to inform frontline staff in engagement approaches to care.

The aim of the model is to provide education and coaching to build capability in recognising triggers to changed behaviour and promote effective engagement, communication and person-centred care practice.

Insights from the ‘Engagement Matters’ project inform this Guide.
ACH Group acknowledges the collaboration and support of ARIIA, Dementia Training Australia Queensland (DTA Qld) and Flinders University.

We thank Project Team Teresa Moran, Professor Lily Xiao, A/Professor Margaret Mac Andrew, Sandra Jeavons, Ivy Diegmann and the Highercombe Residential Home leadership team Anne Cross, Madison Nothrop and Julie Mettyear for designing, piloting and evaluating the ‘Engagement Matters’ Project.

ACH Group’s SALA Exhibition may have wrapped up for another year, but the creativity 🎨, colour 🌈, and inspiration ✨ live on!

This year’s theme Through My Eyes brought together over 115 artists who shared 263 artworks 🖼️ across Campbelltown Library and Woodcroft Community Centre. Each piece told its own story – sparking conversation, connection, and reflection 💭.

We loved coming together at morning and afternoon teas to celebrate the artists and hear about their journeys – from what inspires them to create, to how their artistic paths first began.🌟

A heartfelt thank you 💐 to:
Artists from our community art groups – Coromandel Valley, Marden, Partridge House, Port Noarlunga, and Wynn Vale, as well as artists from Colton Court, Healthia, Highercombe, Kapara, Milpara, Perry Park and ViTA Residential Care Homes and St Georges Court Retirement Living Village.

Your creativity made SALA 2025 truly special. ❤️
