📢 Community highlight from Elkanah Retirement Village 🐾👂

At ACH Group retirement living hubs, residents enjoy a range of activities and events - whether organised by the organisation or led by residents themselves. From social catch ups to informative sessions, there's always something to support connection and learning.

In May, residents at Elkanah Retirement Village attended an engaging session with the Australian Lions Hearing Dogs team, where they had the chance to meet Woody, a trained Hearing Assistance Dog.

💬 Jess Hattam, Community Engagement Coordinator for Australian Lions Hearing Dogs, explained:

"Whether as a stand-alone or complementary assistance to hearing aid devices, our Hearing Assistance Dogs provide help in day-to-day living, as well as provide an added level of assurance and emotional connectedness in people’s lives."

The session highlighted how Hearing Assistance Dogs support independence and can improve quality of life through increased safety, reduced isolation, and improved communication.

It was a valuable opportunity for residents to learn more about the impact of hearing loss and the practical support available, including how assistance dogs contribute to everyday wellbeing.

📷 Thanks to Tahlia, Village Manager, for capturing these moments with the Australian Lions Hearing Dogs team and residents – including Jenny pictured interacting with the dog during the session.
