Elizabeth Rose is a volunteer at ACH Group

A new passion discovered

Elizabeth is a volunteer gardener at ACH Group’s Perry Park Residential Care Home.

Other than enjoying the odd gardening show on TV, Elizabeth said she never thought she would become a ‘green thumb’ and that by doing so she would such an impact.

Elizabeth said the sprawling grounds of Perry Park were like a blank canvas with huge scope for creativity and growth, much like a blank artist canvas.

“Volunteering at Perry Park has become such a passion that when I leave for the day, I start planning in my head the next area of the garden I can create together with residents a space to enjoy.

Since Elizabeth joined as a volunteer in early 2024, she has together with residents created an orchid and a native garden with the next project in the planning. Residents have already started talking about installing wall-growing mandevillas to add a splash of red, pink and white to Perry Park’s walkways.

“I’ve basically spent my whole life in the southern region, so it is nice to be able to give contribute to my local community,” she said.

“I get real satisfaction that I am part of creating beautiful spaces and views that residents can enjoy sitting, walking or looking at through their windows”.

ANZAC Day was commemorated across ACH Group’s retirement living and residential care communities, with meaningful services and gatherings held to honour those who served and made sacrifices.

🌺Highercombe hosted RSL representatives, with residents leading the service through the presentation of the speech, Acknowledgement of Country, readings, prayers and poems, concluding with the Tea Tree Gully Orchestra performing the Australian national anthem and other songs.

🌺 A moving service was held at Perry Park, where a five‑piece ensemble performed cherished songs before residents and guests gathered to lay a wreath at the war memorial—an emotional tribute shared by all who attended.

🌺 Residents at Milpara marked the day with a personal contribution, as resident Anthony wrote and read an ANZAC Day poem that offered a powerful reflection and resonated deeply with the community.

🌺 The service at Kapara was led by Major Elmo alongside resident John, whose father served with the 50th Battalion in World War I at Villers‑Bretonneux, with special significance given John’s father later lived at Kapara when it operated as the Anzac Hostel.

🌺 Across retirement living communities, residents came together over barbecue lunches, creating space to connect, reflect and share stories, with sincere thanks to Brian, John and other residents who helped organise the events.

🌺 At James Evans Court Retirement Village, residents joined the Ode of Remembrance at Irene’s invitation and warmly welcomed veterans Fergus and John in a shared moment of reflection.

🙏 Thank you to everyone who took part in this important commemoration across ACH Group.
