When the days are shorter and the temperature drops, it can be tempting to stay indoors, be less active and eat calorie-dense comfort foods.
But it’s important to look after our health all year round.
Here are our top tips for keeping healthy this winter:
Eating nutritious foods can help keep your immune system strong. Enjoy winter seasonal vegetables and fruits such as mandarins, oranges, broccoli and cauliflower.
Drink plenty of water
It is important to drink plenty of water throughout the day. It is easy to forget to drink when the weather becomes cooler as we think our body doesn’t need any water.
Keeping hydrated will keep your skin healthy, flush out toxins and help ward off winter bugs.
Get active indoors
The weather may not be the best to get outdoors – so join an exercise group or physical activity program. There are many options such as yoga, dancing or even indoor swimming. Being active for 30 minutes every day can help you feel more energetic, healthier and feel more positive. If you’re looking for ideas, look through our Autumn/Winter Social Links Directory to find out how you can join one of our 50 one-to-one and group social experiences on offer throughout Adelaide and the Fleurieu Peninsula.
Get your flu shot
Colds and flu are common in winter and cause disruption to your home, social and work life.
Don’t put yourself at risk of the flu. It’s not too late – contact your GP for the free vaccination, or your local council or chemist for a low-cost alternative.
